Hearn On Benn's World Title Ceiling After Garcia Loss

Eddie Hearn does not believe Conor Benn can win a world title at boxing's elite level.

The Matchroom promoter delivered a stark assessment of his former client following Benn's disastrous showing against Ryan Garcia at UFC 327 earlier this month. Garcia dropped Benn with a right hand in the second round before swarming in with a barrage that forced the stoppage inside T-Mobile Arena.

Hearn Questions If Best Version Of Benn Showed Up

Speaking to iFL TV, Hearn suggested Benn looked off on fight night but stopped short of making excuses. "I just felt that he looked lost," Hearn said, per MMA Fighting. "Didn't really look like himself. Maybe it was just weight." Hearn added that he predicted Garcia would win inside three rounds and noted Benn likely held weight for an extended period rather than crashing it before weigh-ins.

Despite the measured tone, Hearn drew a clear line on Benn's ceiling. "Now is he world class? I think what we've found it is no he's not, but it doesn't mean he's not a good fighter," he told iFL TV. "I just don't think he's good enough to win a world title or box that level, particularly at a weight class that's actually not suited to him."

Benn released a statement after the loss saying he plans to spend time with his children before deciding what comes next. Hearn predicted his former fighter will be done within a year. The defeat marked Benn's first bout under the Zuffa Boxing banner after he abruptly ended a decade-long relationship with Matchroom.
