Haney Puts Keyshawn Davis On Notice – ‘You On The List'
WBO Welterweight Champion Devin Haney says that Keyshawn Davis is one of his targets moving forward.
Haney’s comments came with the condition that Davis beats Jamaine Ortiz on January 31, 2026 in his next fight. Davis has already stated that he intends to move up to welterweight after Ortiz, putting the pressure on him to perform. Haney is a three-division world champion after having defeated Brian Norman Jr. for the WBO welterweight title in November 2025. Davis suggested Haney was unsure over whether to face him after which Devin said: "You on the list, we can get it on."

And yet, Ortiz cannot be overlooked. He is widely considered one of the most difficult opponents, having pushed both Vasiliy Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez to the limit with decision losses. The fight with Keyshawn is also officially sanctioned as a WBO 140-pound eliminator, meaning the winner will be in the immediate line for a title shot—though Davis insists his future lies at welterweight.
For Davis, this fight is a crucial step in rehabilitating his reputation following a hard 2025. Davis missed weight for a lightweight bout against Edwin De Los Santos in June 2025, as he was stripped of his WBO belt. Davis was also caught on camera in a physical altercation with Nahir Albright, who had just defeated Davis’ older brother, Kelvin. If Davis handles Ortiz, a clash with Haney would represent one of the biggest domestic matchups in the sport.
The Approach

Haney’s tactical tool is a jab that doubles up, as a defensive weapon. Against a naturally smaller man moving up like Davis, Haney will likely use his physical frame to keep the fight at the end of his punches. He won’t look for a knockout early; instead, he will use feints to freeze Davis, making him hesitant to trigger his offense. Haney’s goal is to dictates the pace, clinching whenever Davis gets too close to smother his work.

For Davis to beat a larger, more established welterweight like Haney, he has to overcome the reach disadvantage. Tactically, Davis would need to employ a "high-guard" approach to get past Haney’s jab, focusing on explosive bursts of punches once he breaks the distance. Haney is prone to leaning back to avoid shots, so he could target Haney’s head to catch him on the retreat.
