Bruno Warns Fury May Pull Out Of Joshua Fight
Tyson Fury is dealing with an injury that could jeopardize his scheduled December showdown with Anthony Joshua, according to former heavyweight champion Frank Bruno.
Bruno told Tony Bellew that Fury sustained some kind of physical setback during training and that the issue might be serious enough to cancel the Netflix-streamed card set for Dec. 11 at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. "I looked at him the other day, and I think someone was talking to me in the gym that he's got some injury, which may stop him from going into the fight with Joshua," Bruno said, per MMA Mania. "And having that on your head ain't nice."
What Joshua-Fury Cancellation Would Mean For Heavyweight Division
The nature and severity of the injury remain unclear. Fury holds a 36-2-1 record with 25 knockouts and last fought in July when he stopped Mariusz Wach in Thailand after ending his second retirement. Joshua, meanwhile, carries a 30-4 mark with 27 KOs and most recently defeated Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia.
If Fury withdraws, promoters would likely turn to one of several available heavyweights to step in opposite Joshua on short notice. The fight represents one of the most anticipated heavyweight matchups of the decade, with both former champions looking to reassert themselves at the top of the division.
No official confirmation has come from Fury's camp regarding any injury or potential withdrawal from the Dec. 11 date.
