Errol Spence arrives in Australia: 'I'm going to take over his backyard'
Errol Spence has arrived in Australia ahead of his July 26 middleweight meeting with Tim Tszyu, declaring his intention to dominate on enemy ground.
The former welterweight champion, returning from a three-year layoff, touched down to a traditional Aboriginal welcome performance. "It was a dope experience," Spence told Fight Hub TV, per Bad Left Hook. "I wasn't expecting to get greeted by aborigines and getting a whole dance and getting to meet them and everything. So, it was dope, man. I appreciate that."
Spence unfazed by hostile territory
When asked about fighting in Tszyu's home country, Spence said the overseas assignment holds no mystery. "It's going to be a dope event. I've been used to it. Even when I was in the amateurs I fought overseas a lot, so it's not something I'm unfamiliar with at all," he said. Spence plans to spend his remaining days before the fight drilling his game plan and handling media obligations.
As for any message to Tszyu, Spence kept it blunt. "I don't have no message for [Tszyu]. I'm the big fish. I'm going to come take over his backyard."
Both fighters enter at career crossroads. A loss would likely derail either man's path back to championship-level boxing. The bout marks Spence's first appearance since 2023 and his middleweight debut.
