Donchenko On Makhachev's Record Streak Vs Silva's

Rising UFC welterweight Daniil Donchenko drew a sharp line between Islam Makhachev's record-tying UFC win streak and Anderson Silva's legacy run, arguing the welterweight champion's path lacks the spectacular finishes that defined The Spider's reign.

Donchenko, fresh off his win over Punahele Soriano at UFC Paris, assessed Makhachev's title defense against Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330 and found Garry mentally unprepared for the moment. "Ian Garry was not a champion in his head in this day," Donchenko told Bowks Talking Bouts. He called the fight unspectacular and noted that Makhachev now holds the record Silva once owned.

Why Makhachev's 18 Wins Differ From Silva's

The former TUF champion broke down the stylistic gulf between the two streaks. "If we will compare 18 wins from Anderson Silva and 18 wins from Makhachev, it's different kind of wins, different spectacular stuff," he said, per Bowks Talking Bouts. "Anderson Silva, he was like crazy highlights and stuff. Knockout wins and Makhachev in this division, he have more like decision wins."

Donchenko acknowledged Makhachev's status as pound-for-pound number one but pointed to Yaroslav Amosov as the welterweight who could truly test the champion. He argued Amosov wouldn't rely on takedown defense but would instead attack Makhachev with superior striking and grappling pressure, forcing the champion into unfamiliar territory.

Makhachev's next title defense remains unscheduled as he recovers from his grueling five-rounder with Garry.
