Dana White moves UFC production crew to second worst in sports
Dana White has demoted his UFC production crew to second worst in sports after the FIFA World Cup final broadcast committed a series of celebrity identification errors that outdid even the promotion's recent Shakur Stevenson gaffe.
White, who blasted his team earlier this month for confusing boxer Stevenson with NBA guard Jalen Williams at UFC 329, posted an Instagram Stories rant Saturday after watching Spain beat Argentina 1-0 in the World Cup final. Per Sherdog, he said the FIFA production crew had earned the top spot for worst celebrity coverage in sports.
World Cup broadcast confused Rubio with Ronaldo, Pharrell with A$AP Rocky
The World Cup broadcast committed multiple on-air blunders, including a commentator mistaking U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio for soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo as Rubio sat behind President Donald Trump. Another announcer confused singer Pharrell Williams with rapper A$AP Rocky, prompting the two artists to post a photo together afterward. White addressed both his production team and FIFA's in his video.
"Even though everybody on my team was arguably saying that you are the worst, I said, 'No, we're the worst. They didn't f*ck it up as bad as we did,'" White said, per the report. "What do you guys do? You triple down today and you just go, 'F*ck you, Dana White. You're not beating us. We're the worst production team in the history of sports to ever show celebrities.' I bow down. Congratulations to the producers of the World Cup. You guys win. We're the second worst."
White also criticized the World Cup broadcast's coverage of a pre-match flyover. The UFC returns to Las Vegas for UFC 330 on Aug. 2.
