Canelo Alvarez Names The Hardest Punchers

Ahead of his October 31 clash with WBC champion Christian Mbilli, Canelo Alvarez has named the three hardest-hitting opponents from his 68-fight career: Gennady Golovkin, Sergey Kovalev, and James Kirkland.

Golovkin gave Canelo the toughest test of the three, coming close to winning their 2017 middleweight clash before Canelo salvaged a draw and later a majority decision in the 2018 rematch. Kovalev, though past his prime by the time the two met in 2019 when Canelo won the WBO heavyweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">light heavyweight title, still left an impression on Canelo's power rankings. Kirkland rounds out the list, with Canelo noting his welterweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">super welterweight power despite stopping him in three rounds back in 2015.
