Resendiz Shocks Plant In An Upset Win

Jose Armando Resendiz secured an upset win over Caleb Plant via a split decision in the biggest win of his career in a result that should have been unanimous: 116-112 (x2) and 113-115.

The result means that Resendiz becomes the WBA Interim Super Middleweight Champion, putting him in a mandatory position for the winner of Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford. Resendiz had knocked out his previous three opponents, getting past Fernando Paliza in his last bout, showing he was capable to hurting his opponents. While Plant had stopped Trevor McCumby in his last fight, he had to get off the canvas to get the win. Plant’s hopes of facing Jermall Charlo or Canelo Alvarez have now been hampered.
