Canelo Alvarez title fight vs. Mbilli moved to October
Canelo Alvarez's middleweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">super middleweight title fight against Christian Mbilli has been delayed by a month and will now take place in late October, Ring Magazine reports.
The bout, which was originally scheduled for September, will see Alvarez defend his status as one of boxing's biggest draws against the undefeated Mbilli, who holds the WBC title at 168 pounds.
Why the Canelo-Mbilli fight was postponed
No official reason for the schedule change has been announced. The shift gives both camps additional time for preparation and could allow promoters to secure a more lucrative date on the fall calendar.
Mbilli enters the fight with an unblemished record and represents a legitimate threat to Alvarez, who has faced criticism in recent years over his opponent selection. The October timing positions the fight as a potential tent-pole event heading into the holiday season.
An exact date and venue are expected to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
