Benn Predicts Stoppage Of Garcia In WBC Title Fight

Conor Benn expects to stop Ryan Garcia when the pair meet for the WBC welterweight title later this year in Las Vegas.

Benn, who fought Chris Eubank Jr at 160 pounds earlier this year, told Ring Magazine's Mike Coppinger that he's prepared his body properly for the drop back to 147 and believes Garcia will not survive the full 12 rounds. "I hand on heart believe I get hold of him," Benn said, per Bad Left Hook. "That's what I believe in my heart. I believe that 10 years in the game this year, I believe this is mine for the taking."

Benn's Weight Cut And Fight Preparation

The Englishman acknowledged the difficulty of returning to welterweight after the Eubank fight but said he's not complaining given the stakes. He's been paid well, he said, and is headlining a major card in Vegas for a world title. Benn said both men carry serious power at 147 and that anyone caught flush on the chin is going to sleep. When asked about his strategy, he was direct: "I'm coming with the smoke, I'm coming with it for sure."

Benn said his team has left no stone unturned in camp and that he's put his body through hell to make the weight properly. He noted that how he performs on fight night depends on how he handles the weigh-in, which is why he's been so diligent about the process. The fight has no announced date yet but is expected to take place in the fall in Nevada.
