In today’s boxing news latest headlines, Robert Smith, the British Boxing Board of Control chief, has rebutted allegations of racism against the organization.

According to reports, two former judges, John-Lewis and Jeff Hinds, and Ruqsana Begum, a flyweight boxer, made the allegations of racism and discrimination.

A report apparently stated that Begum came to the conclusion that she had faced racism after her interactions with the board. The fighter alleged that her license was suspended shortly after she had worn leggings in the ring for a fight in line with her Islamic faith.

The board allegedly responded by giving two reasons for the suspension: Her fitness was allegedly not at the level required, while another claim was that she had lost four fights in a row even though Begum apparently had three fights.

In contrast, John-Lewis and  Jeff Hinds claimed that they had been subjected to racism in some serious claims.

BBBofC Accused Of Racism

"I’m absolutely disgusted. They used a scapegoat. They were under so much pressure the British Boxing Board of Control that they needed someone to be punished and they chose me… They singled me out and I believe it’s because I’m black," John-Lewis stated

BBBofC’s Response

Despite those claims, Smith denied anything of the sort.

"I’m obviously very disappointed. I’ve worked for this organization for a long time, and I don’t believe anything that was said in the documentary is correct. We work very hard with all races, all religions, etc. I don’t think it’s correct and I’m disappointed they put it out without coming to us and doing a proper investigation. They’ve had a year to put it together, they asked us to deal with it in two days. We wrote to them. We gave them our point of view. They used some of the things we said, but not all of them. Any decision made in regard to those two gentlemen was not down to race or religion, it was down to performance," Smith

Paul On Danis

Meanwhile, in another controversy, Logan Paul has promised to beat Dillion Danis in their upcoming fight on October 14th, 2023.

The two fighters have spread a lot of bad blood in the build up, partly due to Danis’ insistence on trolling Paul’s fiancée Nina Agdal. That has resulted in Danis sharing posts on social media over Agdal’s numerous relationships.

The implication was that Agdal had a big body count, which had left her feeling ‘distressed,’ due to the photos. As a result, the latter did sue Danis and request a restraining order to prevent him from doing such posts. Thereafter, Paul stirred things up by referencing Danis’ late father during the build up.

"Your life is going down hill ever since you got kicked out of Marcelo’s gym. You turned to alcohol try to drown everything out, your dad passed away, you lost friends. I empathise with you Dillon because I understand Twitter for you is like a group therapy session. You’re getting a sense of validation," Paul

"Talk about that see what happens, you say you’re not a scumbag and talk about my dad passing," Danis

Paul On The Court Battle

And now Paul has vowed to beat Danis in court as well as the ring. After all, Paul has placed a $100,000 fine in the contract if Danis does pull out, which would require the latter to pay him.

"I would prefer that he shows up. If he doesn’t, I will be more than happy to handle Mike Perry. It won’t feel like a letdown. I’ll let Nina handle him in court. We’re going to slaughter him either way. When I connect that right hand to his face in the cleanest way possible, and I watch him crumble, and I tower over him with my hand in the air, and it’s the most glorious knockout, the crowd goes crazy, that people have ever seen, that feels like it’s going to be worth it to me. And then we’re gonna see the slow decline and downfall of Dillon Danis," Paul

With the fight less than a month away, the time for trash talking is almost over. And given everything that has been said, one fighter will have to eat their words come fight night. And there is no getting away from that.
