Alalshikh Selling Ring Magazine To DAZN
Turki Alalshikh is selling his controlling interest in Ring Magazine to streaming giant DAZN, according to multiple reports.
Bad Left Hook's Tris Dixon first reported the sale, with Lance Pugmire of The Athletic corroborating the story. Neither DAZN nor representatives for Alalshikh have issued statements confirming the transaction. The deal would end Alalshikh's ownership of the publication after less than two years.
What Alalshikh Promised When He Bought Ring Magazine
Alalshikh acquired Ring from Oscar De La Hoya in late 2024, pledging to hire "brilliant writers" and restore credibility to the magazine's ranking system while maintaining editorial independence. Those promises largely went unfulfilled. The publication avoided becoming outright propaganda but failed to distinguish itself editorially, save for Alalshikh occasionally using its social media accounts to settle personal scores.
DAZN's acquisition represents a shift in control from state backing to corporate ownership. The streaming platform has expanded aggressively into boxing in recent years, securing broadcast rights to major promotions and building what one observer called a "pugilistic Death Star." Placing the sport's most recognizable publication under the same roof as one of its dominant broadcasters raises questions about journalistic independence, though DAZN's track record leans toward questionable commentary teams rather than the human rights concerns that shadowed Alalshikh's tenure.
No timeline has been disclosed for when the sale will close or what changes DAZN plans for the magazine's editorial direction.
