Mike Perry Challenges Tyron Woodley For A Fight On Paul vs. Tyson Card

Mike Perry has called out Tyron Woodley for a fight on the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson card.

Perry has forged a name for himself in BKFC ever since leaving the UFC in 2021. His last UFC fight was a loss to Daniel Rodriguez, taking his record to four losses out of his last five UFC bouts. Since joining BKFC, Perry has reinvented himself. He is undefeated with a 5-0 record, stopping Thiago Alves in the first round in his last fight.

Perry has had one boxing bout, which took place in 2015. Kenneth McNeil stopped him in the first round. Woodley, the former UFC Welterweight Champion, also ended his UFC career on a bad note. He suffered four consecutive losses, his last against Vicente Luque at UFC 260. Since then, he has had two boxing bouts with Jake Paul. His last performance was a stoppage loss to Paul. While he was linked with a fight against Manny Pacquiao, the fight never got made.

“@MannyPacquiao we been…[waiting] around with these numbers for two months. We fighting or what!? You acting like Floyd [Mayweather] and KSI,” Woodley stated

Perry vs. Woodley

Perry now wants to face Woodley on a big stage as he called him out.

“Damn my dawg @TWooodley, gotta redeem yourself in a boxing match against me on the @netflix card, @MikeTyson killin the conference with these bars,” Woodley said

Nevertheless, Perry turned down the chance to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on the Paul-Tyson card. Chavez Jr. never managed to achieve anywhere close to what his father, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., did in the sport. He would, however, win the WBC Middleweight Title in 2011. He made three successful defences of the belt. However, he would lose the belt after a loss to Sergio Martinez.

Further defeats against Andrzej Fonfara, Canelo Alvarez and Daniel Jacobs showed he was not at the elite level. His previous fight was against David Zegarra in 2021. While he did box an MMA fighter in Anderson Silva, he lost out to a split decision. That fight would have been a good match-up, but Perry turned it down.

Perry’s Mindset

“There were some things on the table with that, and the pay wasn’t incredible, especially considering the opponent. I was like oh, I’m interested in being on the Mike Tyson Netflix card to get that exposure against this, certified, professional boxer.

“But the money and there was another option that would be and I could only choose one of them.It was like, there was another option to have more money, and possibly opens more doors, and there’s some incentives involved that I was like, this would be more interesting.  That [fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.] would’ve been cool, but [it’s not happening],” Perry stated

Perry is keen on securing a big payday on the Paul-Tyson card. His fights with BKFC earned him more prize money than the whole of his UFC career. That has set the bar for what he expects moving forward. Until someone meets those numbers, Perry may face a tough time securing a fight on the Paul-Tyson card. But it all depends on the level of his dance partner, which is vital to generating a big purse.
