In the latest boxing news, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, the former middleweight champion, has reportedly received treatment at a psychiatric facility.

According to reports, as per TMZ Sports, Chavez Jr. had allegedly taken numerous pills as his wife, Frida Chavez, informed the police thereafter after becoming concerned about her own safety.

Chavez Jr.’s Hospitalisation

It is claimed that Frida had gotten in touch with the police on October 24th, 2023, with serious concerns over his health. The former allegedly stated that she believed he took a large amount of medication that could ultimately do him some serious damage.

TMZ further claimed that the circumstances surrounding the hospitalisation were not fully clear, however, Chavez was not deemed to be in good health.

As per the medical rules, medical personnel and police can hold anyone if they have reason to believe that a person is “a danger to others, or to themselves, or gravely disabled for assessment, evaluation, and crisis intervention,” for up to 72 hours.

And given that it seems to be a serious concern, the boxer’s father, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr, has now had his say on the matter.

Chavez Sr. Reacts

“I feel sorry for him, because his children are little and he’s not enjoying them. It hurts me that he’s going to go crazy, that he’s going to have an accident driving at 12-1 in the morning at full speed, that he’s going to have a heart attack from all the pills he takes,” Chavez Sr.

This is not the first time that Chavez Jr. had dealt with such struggles. His father had preciously spoken about his son’s long absence from the ring, which was due to a nine-month period in rehab.

And given that Chavez Jr. has seen his son go through a similar thing, it was a very difficult period to deal with, which is why this incident has now exacerbated an already worrying situation.

“I have lived it first-hand with my sons Julio and Omar. Unfortunately, even though they saw all my stumbles and they saw all my drug addiction, it seems that they followed my behaviour and for me, it has been extremely complicated and difficult because I know what it’s like to be locked up.

“I know what it’s like to be there for four months. Having your house out there, your kids, your cars, your money, and being in rehab eating rotten vegetables and getting up at 6 o’clock in the morning to take a bath in freezing cold water. Not being able to talk to anyone, not being able to move, it’s really hard.

“And me, having to take that step to put my children there because my clinics have never helped them because they are mine and they do what they want. Now I send Julio, I sent him, and imagine how I feel, I’ve cried like you can’t imagine,” Chavez Sr said

Ultimately, Chavez Jr. is going through a difficult period which is why the fanbase will be hoping for a recovery as soon as possible.
