Jermell Charlo has a better chance of beating Canelo Alvarez than his brother, Jermall Charlo. That is the view of Claressa Shields.

This should not comes as a surprise, given Jermall’s recent issues outside of the ring.

Jermell Charlo Has Better Chance Of Beating Canelo Than His Brother

The WBC middleweight champion has been away from the sport for two years since his win over Juan Macias Montiel while Jermell Charlo has been more active.

Not only that, but Jermall’s recent social media activity raised alarm bells. Charlo recently raised concerns among boxing fans due to his slurred speech following his struggles with mental health.

The boxer had been rumored to fight Canelo, but it was ultimately his brother. However, Charlo’s decision to give the fight contract to his brother and his discussion on psychedelics have raised further concerns about his well-being in light of his following comments.

Comments

“All right, so I’m going to tell y’all the real s**t.  Yeah, I signed the contract with Canelo too. I gave it to my brother first, so we both make money.

“Is y’all crazy? We both going to make money, but if I can give it to my brother first until, I guess, get right because they so-called I gotta get right.

“I got get right. I ain’t tripping, but as long as I get a fight with [Canelo]. “Y’all want some psychedelics? Y’all mad at me because I gave the fight to my brother? Let my brother fight. My brother got to go up two weight classes,” Charlo

Shields’ View

With that being said, Shields favored Jermell Charlo to have a better chance of victory.

“I think little Jermell has a better chance of beating Canelo than big Jermall. Skillwise, Jermell may fight at 154, but he walks around at 170 or 180. So he won’t have to cut as much; he’ll be stronger.

“Canelo is the guy to beat, but we’ve seen he’s not unbeatable. He lost to Floyd, and he lost to Bivol. So, Jermell is a very confident fighter, very determined, and he hates losing,” Shields said

Regardless of who has the better chance, beating a four-time division champion in the form of Canelo is no mean feat.
