Gervonta Davis Still Wants To Fight Haney And Shakur - 'Tank Wants All Those Guys'

Gervonta Davis wants to face Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson.

That is according to Leonard Ellerbe. Tank is currently preparing for his next fight, which will take place against Frank Martin in June. Davis has not boxed since beating Ryan Garcia last year. He stopped Garcia in the seventh round with a brutal body shot to give Ryan his first loss.

Following the win, he spent time in jail after violating the terms of his house arrest over a hit-and-run incident. That meant Davis stayed in jail for 44 days to serve out the remainder of his house arrest. Now that he is fighting Martin, Davis will have to be wary. Martin is an undefeated southpaw known for his boxing IQ. But if he gets past Martin, Ellerbe hinted that bigger fights could occur.

Ellerbe Reacts

“Tank wants all those guys. Tank wants ‘em all, that’s a fact. Just got to see how it plays out. Don’t get me started on that. Tank is focused on what he got to go do and he’s going to make an announcement…when that time comes, Tank will let you guys know what he’s doing,” Ellerbe said

Facing Martin does set up the potential for a fight with Shakur or Haney. Martin is a slick boxer, something Stevenson and Haney are known for being. But historically, making those fights has been difficult. Davis’ camp has said a fight with Shakur does not make financial sense. This is on the basis that Stevenson’s commercial power is low. His win over Edwin De Los Santos did not help, as Shakur was booed for his defensive style.

A bout with Devin Haney has proved difficult over the weight class. Davis fights at 135, while Haney campaigns at 140. There are also suggestions that Davis wants a rehydration clause, which Haney has ruled out. But given the huge demand to make the fight, there is a feeling it will happen. Saudi Arabia has expressed their intention to make the fight this year.

Will It Happen?

“I want him [Davis] and I send message now to Al Haymon [Davis’ advisor] – let’s do the job brother. I want to see Haney in my country and I send message now to him. [And] I will try to do it in 2024. Please, we don’t want any YouTuber fights again. I want fighters, this is what I support. For me, inside my heart, I want the fighters,” Turki Alalshikh said

Yet Davis responded to those comments by demanding that he receive two Ferraris before any negotiations can start. That has created the narrative that Davis is looking to avoid Haney by pricing himself out. But if Davis desires to be the best of his era, he must face Stevenson and Haney. Both are entering their prime and are in and around Davis’ weight class. Since the Garcia fight secured Davis a considerable purse, his focus must surely turn towards creating his legacy.
