Gervonta Davis has long been regarded as one of boxing’s most devastating punchers, but Tank admitted Rolando Romero hits like a brick.

Although Davis stopped Romero with a counter left hook in the sixth round of their 2022 encounter, he noted that the power Romero generated was enough to “hit me across the ring.” This is despite having faced the likes of Ryan Garcia and Isaac Cruz.

“I ain’t going to lie, Rolly hit hard. People are sleeping on Rolly. He hasn’t got a chin, so Rolly gets caught, but he can hit … He’s the only person I have felt. When he swung, it felt like there were bricks in his hands,” Davis said

Those comments were also echoed by Ryan Garcia. Garcia boxed Romero in May 2025, as he suffered an upset loss. During the unanimous decision defeat, Garcia hit the canvas as he seemed reluctant to engage for most of the fight. Garcia later revealed that Romero is a hard puncher.

“I just think that Rolly is much better than people give him credit for. He has very strong hands, just solid in general. So, you can’t just walk in there and think you’re just gonna get anything on him. He does hit hard, but I don’t think the sparring played anything [into this fight]. It was just more of how his night played out. It just wasn’t my night,” Garcia stated

Tank’s Future

Davis is currently at a crossroads. He secured a majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr. on March 1, 2025. The result was characterized by a bizarre round-nine incident: Davis took a knee momentarily after Roach landed a right hand, then went to his corner to have his face wiped. Referee Steve Willis did not rule it a knockdown, accepting Davis’s explanation that hair product had gotten into his eyes.

Had that knee been ruled a knockdown, Roach likely would have secured a massive upset victory. Instead, the fight ended in a draw, and the ensuing backlash—along with Davis’ growing frustration with the sport—led to rumors of a premature retirement in July 2025.

Davis was scheduled for an exhibition against Jake Paul on November 14, 2025. The event was scrapped on November 4 after Davis was named in a civil lawsuit filed by ex-girlfriend alleging battery and kidnapping. While Davis is expected to return, there is uncertainty over who he will face.
