Poirier's Dislike For McGregor Continues
Dustin Poirier did not hold back on his dislike for Conor McGregor, despite holding a 2-1 lead in their trilogy, saying he doesn’t wish him the best ahead of Conor’s likely return to fighting.
The conversation turned to McGregor’s rumored comeback at UFC 329 on July 11, 2026. Chris Weidman—who suffered a similar leg break in 2021 before Conor’s injury in the third Poirier fight at UFC 264 in 2021—offered a supportive sentiment. Weidman said: “I hope the best for him. It’s hard to be the person you were before that kind of trauma. I want to see him overcome that.”

Poirier went the other way. The pair’s bad blood continued after their last fight when McGregor infamously said he was in the DMs of Dustin’s wife, as their feud then continued on social media. Dustin had this to say: “Not me, I hope the worst for him.”
| Feature | Chris Weidman | Dustin Poirier |
| Perspective | The Survivor: Views McGregor through the lens of a shared physical tragedy (the leg break). | The Rival: Views McGregor through the lens of a personal blood feud. |
| Motivation | Empathy for the “athlete” and the grueling recovery process. | Distaste for the “man” and his past actions. |
| Verdict | Sees a fellow fighter’s struggles | Sees a “dirtbag” (a term Dustin has used previously). |

The fact that Conor remains the biggest star in the sport despite a losing record in recent years only amplifies Dustin’s success over him. Poirier has beaten McGregor twice in a row, yet McGregor still commands higher paydays, more media attention, and the ability to “pick” his comeback dates.
Poirier may feel a sense of unfairness. He has stayed active, fought the best in the world, and remained a top contender, while McGregor does not need to fight. However, Poirier’s history suggests it’s purely personal. Dustin has reached a level of financial security where he “doesn’t have to fight anymore.”
