Biography

Professional Career

Rolando Romero’s professional boxing career has been marked by impressive victories, high-stakes bouts, and notable setbacks. He made his debut on December 2, 2016, at Sam’s Town Hotel and Gambling Hall in Sunrise Manor, Nevada, where he defeated David Courtney via TKO in the first round. This victory set the tone for Romero’s aggressive fighting style and his ability to finish fights quickly. Romero continued his ascent through the ranks with a series of knockout victories. He won his next six fights by stoppage, including a first-round TKO against Alex Silva on January 27, 2018, and a second-round KO against Johnny Estrada on October 21, 2017. His power and dominance in the ring were evident as he racked up a series of wins at Sam’s Town Hotel and Gambling Hall.

In 2020, Romero captured his first major title, winning the vacant WBA interim lightweight title by unanimous decision against Jackson Maríñez on August 15 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Montville, Connecticut. This victory showcased Romero’s ability to go the distance and secure a win through technical prowess. He defended his interim title against Avery Sparrow on January 23, 2021, and later achieved a significant victory over Anthony Yigit on July 17, 2021, despite the WBA interim lightweight title not being at stake due to Yigit missing weight.

Romero faced his first professional defeat on May 28, 2022, against Gervonta Davis at the Barclays Center in New York City. Fighting for the WBA (Regular) lightweight title, Romero was stopped by TKO in the sixth round. This loss was a major setback, but he rebounded by winning the vacant WBA super lightweight title against Ismael Barroso on May 13, 2023, with a ninth-round TKO at The Cosmopolitan in Paradise, Nevada. Despite regaining his momentum, Romero faced another significant defeat on March 30, 2024, losing the WBA super lightweight title to Isaac Cruz at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada. The fight ended in the eighth round with a TKO, marking another challenging moment in Romero’s career.
