Warren Believes That A Fury-Ngannou Rematch Is Likely

Ryan Garcia has once again indicated his desire to get a rematch with Gervonta Davis moving forward.

Their only fight ended with a seventh-round knockout loss for Garcia following a body shot as the boxer’s poor performance was put down to a variety of factors. Garcia alleged that the 136-pound catchweight, which included a ten-pound rehydration clause, had taken its toll on him. Therefore, moving ahead, Garcia was keen on running things back at 140 following his move up to the weight class under his new trainer, Derrick James. But before Garcia can consider that, he must overcome Oscar Duarte on December 2nd, 2023. The latter has stopped his last 11 opponents, which makes him a dangerous customer for any fighter. So if Garcia can do that, Davis is the next target.

Garcia On Davis

“I want to get my rematch at the right weight. He knows it wasn’t who I really was, I’m way better than that, and I’m better than him. I don’t care if he beat me. I’m better than him. Give me my rematch, and I’ll beat him. If I’ve got to go through a Teofimo Lopez or a Devin Haney to get that, then I’m going to do it,” Garcia said

Nevertheless, there are still a few obstacles that would need to be overcome. Would Davis be willing to move up to 140 to take on Garcia? Tank had shown that he is capable of doing such a thing when he faced Mario Barrios. However, facing Garcia at a bigger weight is a different kettle of fish.

Ryan is arguably capable of going up to 147, which would make any rehydration clause redundant, unlike the fight at 136 pounds. In addition, Garcia must also win in style against Duarte in order to keep the interest in a rematch. Their first fight sold over 1.2 million PPVs due to Garcia’s massive social media following. But in order to keep that interest, Garcia must look sharp. And the fighter has promised to do that come fight night.

Garcia On His Next Fight

“That loss [to Gervonta Davis] woke something else up, and it’s the worst thing that could happen to all the other opponents that I lost. That’s the worst thing that could happen, and I’m telling you, I’m coming back. They’re going to make a movie out of this, I promise. They’re going to make a movie. ‘This dude just lost but then come back and just takes over the game.’ I’m telling you, I’m sharp right now, sharp, sharp, sharp, and fast. You’re going to see something special. Be there. I’m telling you, watch this fight,” Garcia stated

The pressure is on Garcia to deliver, particularly since it is his first fight under Derrick James. It was hoped that James would be able to patch up Garcia’s weak defense which was exposed in the Davis fight. And if that can happen, then King Ryan does have all the tools to make himself a dangerous fighter.
