Froch Laughs At Joshua’s Legacy – ‘A Little Fat Kid Ruiz Made Him Quit’
Carl Froch has fired back at Anthony Joshua’s criticism of him as the duo don’t appear to be on good terms.
Some WhatsApps messages between the two showed Joshua calling the ‘Cobra’ a prick. They were former friends during their time training under Rob McCracken. Under McCracken’s guidance, he became the Unified Heavyweight Champion of the World. However, Joshua failed to beat Oleksandr Usyk, resulting in several other trainers before he settled with Ben Davidson.
During this period, Froch questioned whether Joshua was the same. After his loss to Andy Ruiz Jr., Froch made it clear that Joshua was not the same. The Brit was stopped on his American debut. While he avenged the loss in the rematch, Froch questioned Joshua’s career in beating the very elite. That has now boiled over as the two hit out over WhatsApp.
Froch Reacts
“Me and Anthony Joshua had a little conversation yesterday. A little message back and forth. He was asked about the Cobra, Carl Froch. One word answer and what did he say? He called me a prick…Me, I’ve never been…[one]. I don’t understand what it is. Obviously, Anthony Joshua doesn’t like me.
“It s shame because we’ve got a lot of history together. I’ve got no problem with Anthony Joshua. I just try to be honest but my honesty seems to really upset people. Sometimes the truth hurts, but the truth also sets you free. I said that his fight against [Daniel] Dubois could be a close fight and I think that has upset him; got him angry,” Froch said
When it comes to comparing their careers, Froch has a better resume. He is a four-time world champion, having been unified at 168. He faced all the biggest names in the division, beating Mikkel Kessler, George Groves and Jermain Taylor. While he came up short against Andre Ward, Froch’s achievements saw him Inducted into the Hall of Fame. However, Joshua has earned much more than Froch.
The Brit has a net worth of over $100 million. He can establish his legacy further, as he still has a shot at undisputed. He faces Daniel Dubois on September 21 for the IBF Heavyweight Title. The winner becomes mandatory for the winner of Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk. Since they face off on December 21, Joshua could fight for undisputed next year if things play out.
Froch Responds
The closest he got to that was in 2018. Talks over a Deontay Wilder fight, however, broke down. Wilder’s team made a $50 million offer. But the offer was subject to agreeing to it before a contract was sent. That never happened, as the undisputed fight failed. But if Joshua can create a bigger legacy, he may satisfy the Cobra.
“Let’s talk about levels in terms of legacy and wins. A little fat kid from Mexico [Andy Ruiz] made him quit for…God’ssake. He got punched from pillar to post. The referee’s looking at him and what’s he done? He’s quit on his feet. That is embarrassing. Something The Cobra would never ever do, and you can take that to the bank,” Froch added
