In some other boxing news, Andre Ward, the former super middleweight and light heavyweight champion, has revealed that his new book, Killing the Image: A Champion’s Journey of Faith, Fighting, and Forgiveness, will come out on November 14, 2023.

The book is centred around the struggles that made Ward into one of the best fighters of his generation, having gone undefeated.

Notable wins over Carl Froch and Sergey Kovalev marked a career that ended with a win over the latter. And now that the book has been set forward for release, Ward gave boxing fans an insight into what they could expect.

Andre Ward’s Book

“We really want to inspire people to get up and go do something with their lives, and to know that if I overcame. If I got through the obstacles and the struggles that I got through and I’m still standing today to talk about it, that you too can do the same. In writing this book, the main thing I took away from the process was that my life in the midst of it all, was a beautiful struggle. I am just grateful that God gave me the opportunity to tell my story,” Ward stated

Outside of the ring, Ward did forge a reputation for being a household name when it came to commentating. The boxer was alongside Tim Bradley on ESPN as the duo were heavily praised for bringing in a new approach to boxing with Ward’s directness resonating with boxing fans. However, the former champion’s stint on ESPN came to an end this year, leaving Bradley and Ward with much to say.

Canelo’s Billionaire Ambitions

Meanwhile, Robert Garcia has revealed that Canelo Alvarez has a desire to become a billionaire moving forward, a contrast to Ward’s approach.

Those comments would indicate the Mexican’s desire to follow in the footsteps of Floyd Mayweather, who achieved such a feat following after his decision to retire from boxing.

In the aftermath, Mayweather has kept himself busy with crossover fights, exhibitions and other ventures that have increased his net worth to over the billion mark.

And following Alvarez’s last fight against Jermell Charlo, where the boxer made a reported $50 million, it appears that the goal is to continue having lucrative bouts.

“That’s what I heard. It’s hard to explain. This guy’s great. In this guy’s mind, he wants to become a billionaire. He wants to have so many businesses and work for Mexican people. He wants to be great. Very few are like that. Mayweather was one. Canelo just wants more and more and doesn’t get tired of it. That’s something to admire, something to really admire and respect. He still trains like he’s hungry. After his last few performances, most of us thought, ‘Okay, maybe he’s going down; maybe his career is declining now,’ and he came back and fought like he was young & hungry. You got to admire that s**t. “Good for him, man, because you don’t find those,” Garcia stated

And in order to bring that about, Alvarez would have to secure fights against the big names such as David Benavidez and Dmitry Bivol.

The former fight would be a huge blockbuster, as a fight date on Mexican Independence Day or Cinco De Mayo weekend would no doubt sell out.

Meanwhile, the narrative for a Bivol rematch exists given that Canelo suggested he was not 100 percent going into the fight. With that being said, Alvarez has plenty of options moving forward.
