Ennis Stops Stanionis To Unify

Jaron Ennis put on a statement performance as he stopped Eimantas Stanionis following the conclusion of the sixth round.
The win meant Ennis unified the welterweight division by adding Stanionis’ WBA belt to his IBF title. He also picked up the coveted Ring Magazine Belt. Ennis started off orthodox by keeping Stanionis on the outside as the latter tried to close the gap. Ennis was flicking the jab, followed by solid shots to the body. Stanionis found success with a left hook on the counter. Boots showed his versatility by switching to southpaw in a competitive opener.
Ennis picked up the pace in the second, digging into the body once more. Stanionis’ high guard was leaving his body exposed as Boots was in his groove. Stanionis had a better third round, landing his right hand as Ennis was on the ropes. However, Boots hit back with a left uppercut and a right hook when Stanionis closed the gap. Boots was willing to take shots to land his own.
Ennis pushed Stanionis back in the fourth with a solid right hook through the guard. Ennis had outlanded Stanionis by 47 to 37 punches by round five. The pressure eventually told in the sixth. Ennis backed up Stanionis on the ropes before landing four uppercuts to the body. Stanionis hit the canvas.
While he got up and made it to the end of the round, he was not able to continue after the sixth. The win extended Ennis’ record to 34-0, with 30 KOs, while Stanionis suffered his first loss as he moved to 15-1. Ennis will now target fights against the WBC Welterweight Champion Mario Barrios or the WBO Welterweight Champion Brian Norman Jr.
Post-Fight
“I want to go back and watch it. You know I feel like I was, you know, just getting in my groove. I was starting to get loose, having fun and my dad told me just to keep pressing him. You are going to stop him. And you what’s crazy was I had a dream that I was going to stop him, just like this, in the seventh round. But you know things happen man. It came true. The biggest part was just me having fun, being myself and having a live body in front of me. When I got a live body in front of me, you see what happened. I put on a show, I had my fun. I showed you speed, power and defense. I showed you a little bit of my inside game. I showed you everything,” Ennis
