Jaron Ennis’ journey into the realm of boxing began in his hometown of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where the sport runs deep in the city’s veins. Born on June 26, 1997, Ennis was introduced to boxing at a tender age, under the watchful eye of his father and trainer, Derrick “Bozy” Ennis, himself a former professional boxer. Growing up in a family immersed in the sweet science, Ennis was surrounded by the sights and sounds of the gym from an early age, igniting a passion for the sport that would shape his future.
Ennis’ amateur career was marked by a series of impressive victories and standout performances. As he honed his skills under the guidance of his father, he quickly made a name for himself in the local boxing scene. One notable highlight came in 2015, when Ennis represented the United States at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar. Despite facing stiff competition on the international stage, he delivered a stellar performance, showcasing his exceptional talent and earning widespread acclaim.
Throughout his amateur career, Ennis faced a diverse array of opponents, each match serving as a test of his skill and determination. Stepping up to the Big Leagues
Jaron Ennis burst onto the professional boxing scene with a sensational debut on April 30, 2016, when he knocked out Cory Muldrew in the first round at the Dixie Center in St. George, Utah. In an impressive flurry of victories throughout 2016, Ennis scored stoppage wins over Luis Ramos, Deshawn Debose, Tavorus Teague, Matt Murphy, and Eddie Diaz. He closed out the year with two more decisive wins against Chris Alexander and Marcus Beckford.
The following year, Ennis continued his dominance, securing seven more victories, all by stoppage. Notable opponents included Eduardo Flores, Wilfredo Acuña, and George Sosa. His undefeated streak and reputation as a rising star in boxing continued to grow.
In the years that followed, Ennis remained undefeated, accumulating a total of 31 victories, all within the distance. His relentless pursuit of excellence culminated in impressive victories against fighters such as Gustavo Garibay, Mike Arnaoutis, Bakhtiyar Eyubov, and Juan Carlos Abreu.
Ennis faced a significant challenge in December 2020 when he fought former IBF welterweight champion Chris “The Heat” van Heerden. Although the fight ended in a no-contest due to an accidental clash of heads, Ennis remained undeterred. In April 2021, Ennis faced former IBF light-welterweight champion Sergey “Samurai” Lipinets in a highly anticipated bout. Ennis showcased his superior skills, dominating Lipinets and securing a knockout victory in the sixth round.
In October 2021, Ennis made short work of Puerto Rican boxer Thomas “El Francés” Dulorme, knocking him out in the first round. He followed this up with another impressive performance in May 2022, defeating Canada-native Custio “War Machine” Clayton in a second-round knockout, earning himself an IBF welterweight title eliminator bout.
Ennis solidified his status as a rising star in the boxing world in January 2023 when he defeated Ukrainian boxer Karen Chukhadzhian to claim the IBF welterweight interim-champion title. Three months later, following Terence Crawford’s unification of the welterweight titles, Ennis was promoted to full IBF welterweight champion.
