Chris Eubank Snr says Chris Eubank Jnr is 'shot' and 'spent'

Chris Eubank Snr has declared his son finished as a fighter and will not back any comeback after the 36-year-old middleweight went 1-1 with Conor Benn this year.

Eubank Jnr won a Fight of the Year candidate against Benn in April but dropped a lopsided decision in the November rematch, leaving him 35-4. According to BoxingScene, Eubank Snr told Betway's Playbook Boxing that his son is now "shot" and "spent", describing the experience of seeing Jnr in hospital after the second Benn fight as "traumatizing".

Eubank Snr cites brother's dementia death in health warning

The former world champion pointed to his brother Simon's death from frontal lobe dementia as evidence of boxing's long-term toll, per the report. "My brother Simon died of frontal lobe dementia, 20 losses, seven wins. This is what happens. Boxing kills you," Eubank Snr said. He added that promoters treat fighters as "fodder" once they lose twice and are only interested in money.

Eubank Snr said he was not paid to attend his son's fights with Benn and had previously warned Jnr against taking the rematch after struggling to make the 160-pound limit for both bouts. "I said, 'Don't take the second fight, you can't take it. Now you can walk off and you will never want for anything.' He gave it up. He gave up kingship," he told Betway.

Eubank Jnr recently posted on social media that he is a promotional free agent and ready to fight again. He has also been expanding his property portfolio in Dubai and became a father to twins this year. His father remains opposed to any return and said he will continue to speak out regardless of industry opinion.
