Chris Weidman Refuses To Retire

Chris Weidman has downplayed suggestions that he should retire following his loss at UFC 292.

The former middleweight champion had been out of the cage since he broke his leg against Uriah Hall all the way back in 2021.

Therefore, there was a lot of anticipation over how Chris would do on his return. However, things did not go to plan.

Weidman suffered a unanimous-decision loss to Brad Tavares after having been out of the cage since 2021.

And given that Weidman is 39-years-old, Dana White even suggested that the MMA fighter should walk away from the sport.

After all, Weidman did fight on the prelim card, showing that his stock had declined somewhat.

“I love him, I love his family and I think he should retire. We spoke to (Dr. Davidson) and he thinks he blew either his ACL, PCL or MCL. The guy is coming back from a gruesome injury and father time is not our friend at all,” White

Although that may have been the case, Weidman has no intention of retiring anytime soon.

Weidman On Retiring

“It was some experience. I was really grateful the whole time. Just to make that walk again, not knowing if I would’ve been able to do this again. To be back in this arena and have a fight week and make weight and everything, I was really grateful for it. The energy in the crowd was really something, I can’t thank them enough.”

“To have that much love, to have that many people around the world have an understanding of what I went through. What it really took to get here and they really came out hard to support me. Even in a fight that I lost, was awesome to me… Whatever you want to accomplish, you can do it. I’m not done, so I’ll be back better than ever. But this was a good opportunity to get back in the octagon,” Weidman

At the age of 39, Weidman is not getting any younger. And given that a title shot is unlikely, the MMA fighter will have to consider his options.
