Turki Alalshikh Wants A Big Fight At Wembley In September

Turki Alalshikh wants to put on a massive event at Wembley in September.

The news comes after Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren agreed to participate in a 5 vs 5 show in June. This show will pit both promoters’ best fighters against each other in a certain weight class. The weight classes selected are heavyweight, middleweight, featherweight, light-heavyweight, and heavyweight again.

“The top weight is the heavyweight division. We’re very strong in the heavyweight division. We have a great roster of heavyweight fighters and it will be one of ours. Traditionally, the British middleweight division is the division, so it’s going to be the middleweights,” Warren

“We have a number of champions at featherweight and have done historically for the last few years,. Like Frank, I feel that we’re very strong at 126lbs and I’m confident that will be one on the scoreboard for Matchroom. Another fantastic division for British boxing, and we’re going to roll the dice with 175lbs, the light heavyweight division. I am hoping for a big domestic match-up,” Hearn

Alalshikh Reacts

“For me, No. 5, of course, is the heavyweights. They know I love the heavyweights,” Alalshikh

Hearn and Warren have been the two leading promoters in making the big fights in Saudi Arabia. Tyson Fury faced off against Francis Ngannou last year, and Anthony Joshua did the same thing in the month of May. Fury will also take on Oleksandr Usyk for the Undisputed Heavyweight Championship of the World on May 18. Now, Alalshikh is looking at another huge show in England.

“I’m talking, thinking and studying with Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn to do something huge in Wembley in September as a commercial for Riyadh Season,” Turki Alalshikh said

Who Will Headline?

This naturally begs the question: who will headline the event? Since it takes place at Wembley, it will likely involve a British fighter. There is a chance that the Fury vs Usyk rematch will take place at Wembley. Their first fight happens in May, giving both men enough time to prepare for a rematch.

In addition, Anthony Joshua could find himself on the card. He is coming off a second-round knockout of Ngannou, giving him plenty of time to prepare for September. The news of the Wembley bout will satisfy British boxing fans, who have recently seen the huge fights happen in Saudi Arabia. Hearn has spoken previously about keeping boxing going in the UK.

“We have to make sure that major fights happen in England, Ireland, wherever, closer to home. Whether that’s [Katie] Taylor-[Chantelle] Cameron III, whether that’s [Leigh] Wood-[Josh] Warrington, whether that’s [Chris] Eubank-[Conor]Benn, we have to make sure [fights take place in the UK].

“The opportunities to stage major fights in Saudi are there, the cards that we are working on at the moment are incredible. But we do understand that this is our main market. The UK is our main market. We have to make sure that we keep the profile of the sport raised in our country and we do that by great fight nights but also mega great fight nights as well. That’s important,” Hearn said
