Eddie Hearn Slams Jake Paul Vs Mike Tyson But Fans Blame Hearn - 'He Put Him On A Pro Card

Eddie Hearn has slammed Jake Paul’s upcoming fight with Mike Tyson.

According to reports, the two will face off in a bout live from the AT&T Stadium, Texas, on July 20. It will be aired on Netflix, the first time the streaming service has shown a boxing bout. Tyson has not fought in the ring since his last fight with Roy Jones Jr.

Their exhibition ended in a draw, with Tyson stating he was not fighting again. Despite this, the fight sold over a million PPVs, showing that Iron Mike is still one of the most popular boxers to this day. However, given that Tyson is 58, there are concerns that he could suffer damage in the ring.

This is especially true since Paul is taking the sport seriously. The Problem Child is in great form, having stopped Andre August and Ryan Bourland in his last two fights. They were first-round KOs against professional boxers, showing his progression since the Tommy Fury loss. It has not been confirmed whether it is an exhibition or a real boxing fight. But the bout will bring in a host of casual boxing fans, which can only be good for the sport.

Paul vs Tyson

“It’s crazy to think that in my second pro fight, I went viral for knocking out Nate Robinson on Mike Tyson’s undercard. Now, less than four years later, I’m stepping up to face Tyson myself to see if I have what it takes to beat one of boxing’s most notorious fighters and biggest icons. Within just two and a half years of founding MVP, we’re about to produce the biggest fight in history,” Paul

“I’m very much looking forward to stepping into the ring with Jake Paul at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. He’s grown significantly as a boxer over the years, so it will be a lot of fun to see what the will and ambition of a ‘kid’ can do with the experience and aptitude of a GOAT. It’s a full circle moment that will be beyond thrilling to watch; as I started him off on his boxing journey on the undercard of my fight with Roy Jones and now I plan to finish him,” Tyson

But when Hearn was asked about the fight, he was not too complimentary over it.

Hearn Reacts

“You’re asking the wrong guy. I’m a hardcore boxing fan and he’s one of my heroes. I find it very sad, but it’s a big event. I understand people are going to watch it. It’s entertainment, I guess. For someone who idolized him [Tyson] while growing up, it’s not the best day. He’s 58 years old,” Hearn stated

However, Paul has shown that he can put on big events. It has had the impact of putting more eyes on the sport of boxing and giving fighters better paydays. If the Tyson fight can result in other fighters getting a chance to fight on the undercard, then that can only be good. However, based on a purist point of view, the fight may struggle to sell to hardcore boxing fans.
