Tony Ferguson's DUI Charge Dropped

Tony Ferguson’s DUI charge has been dropped after having reached a plea deal with the authorities.

The issue in question relates to an incident of a DUI in May. During the course of that process, Ferguson was apprehended by authorities after having crashed into two cars outside a nightclub in a car park in Hollywood. It is claimed that the fighter was taken in by the police after he refused to comply with a sobriety test.

Ferguson’s Issue

Reports indicate that the charge was dropped after Ferguson pled nolo contendere to a single misdemeanor charge in relation to a charge of wet reckless driving on the highway. The Nolo contendere means that Ferguson must do a year’s worth of probation after having accepted the conviction without admitting guilt.

The news is critical in light of the fact that Ferguson will face Paddy Pimblett on December 16th, 2023, at UFC 296. That will be Ferguson’s first fight since his loss to Bobby Green at UFC 291. That was Ferguson’s sixth loss in a row, and at the age of 39, there are naturally question marks over whether he will retire. But as of now, the fighter has no plans on doing so.

“1.) Haven’t Sparred Good Since Barboza or Thompson 2.) Only Time I Find Myself In A Cage Is When I Fight 3.) Since Pandemic None of This S**t Has Been Fun. 4.) I Used To Smile A Lot More When I Was Competing. 5.) Been So Busy Taking Care Of Others Instead Of Myself. 6.) It’s Taken Absolutely Everything To Find Myself Happy. 7.) Created Boundaries Between Those Who Are Bad For Me. 8.) Structured Myself So I Don’t Make The Same Mistakes 9.) No I’m Not Retiring & F**k Those Who Think I Should 10.) I Have Work To Do & I’m One P***ed Off,” Tony Ferguson said

Ferguson’s Plans

With that being said, Ferguson still has big plans moving forward. The MMA fighter has made it clear that he would be open to having a fight with Conor McGregor. The pair have been butting heads on social media following the news that McGregor will be returning sometime next year. After the Irishman’s enrolment into USADA, the attention has turned towards who he will face next. As of now, Michael Chandler is the favorite for the fight, with suggestions that it could take place at either UFC 300 or in the summer. And yet, that has not prevented Ferguson from targeting that fight at some point as he made it clear that he was the better fighter.

“McNuggets – he lost his sauce. GOATS [Greatest of all time] come and go but BOATS staying floating – I’m a BOAT – I’m the best of all time. That’s a title that’s not gonna go anywhere, I’m always gonna be the f****** champ. No one’s going to do what I’ve done for this sport,” Ferguson stated

Ultimately, the next steps will be crucial for Ferguson’s career moving forward. And if the losing streak continues, there will be more calls on him to walk away from the sport. ‘Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingnews.com
