Gilberto Ramirez Vs. David Benavidez Predictions – ‘He Is Special'
Unified WBA and WBO Cruiserweight Champion Gilberto Ramirez will defend his titles against David Benavidez on May 2, as boxing pros picked their winner.
Ramirez made history in March 2024 as Mexico’s first cruiserweight champion by defeating Arsen Goulamirian. He added the WBO strap in November 2024 with a win over Chris Billiam-Smith. Benavidez is taking a daring leap from heavyweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">light heavyweight to cruiserweight in his pursuit of becoming a three-division world champion. Benavidez currently holds the WBC Light Heavyweight title, having most recently stopped Anthony Yarde in November 2025.
Predictions
“It’s a great fight. I think Ramirez is kind of getting slept on. You’ve got to understand that he’s been at this weight for some time now. He’s acclimated. This is David’s first fight at cruiserweight… it’s going to be different. I’m going to go with Benavidez… I think he’s special. He’s got that dog in him… I think he’s going to take Ramirez to that brink,” Tim Bradley said
“He has got the age advantage, he is younger, he is 29 years old. He has less miles [on the clock], he has never been beaten. Anytime you have been knocked down or beaten, that is a scar that you have to wear – he don’t have that scar going into this fight, but Zurdo does. I think that it’s going to be a great fight, that I give David Benavidez a slight edge to. This is a 60/40 situation for me, maybe a little more in his favour, maybe 65/35, but that is just because he hasn’t lost,” Andre Ward said
More Predictions
“He [Benavidez] going to beat Zurdo. He wanted Zurdo a long time ago, and I think he going to beat Zurdo. He sparred with Zurdo, so he knows what he is dealing with. I think that he would deal with him anyway, but he knows what he is dealing with. If I knew what I was dealing with, I would go get it too, if I knew him,” Roy Jones Jr. said
“I don’t know too much about Zurdo to be honest, he is a good fighter and I have never thought he was a bad fighter or anything like that, but I actually like Benavidez’s headspace and he seems like he is hungry. “The legacy of why he is doing it, he is more pumped up and he is younger, and sh*t like that. So, I’m sort of leaning towards Benavidez but, honestly, I don’t really care. I just want this fight to be done so that we can get ours on [against the winner],” Jai Opetai said
