Gervonta Davis' Next Fight Hinted At
Gervonta Davis’ potential return has been sparked by recent teasers from Floyd Schofield.
Davis currently finds himself at a professional turning point. Following a lengthy layoff—his last appearance being a majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr. in March 2025—the WBA officially moved him to “Champion in Recess” this past January. This happened as Davis navigates a turbulent legal battle in Florida involving serious allegations of kidnapping, battery, and false imprisonment.

Schofield, the WBA’s top-ranked lightweight, is riding high after a clinical first-round finish of Tevin Farmer. His camp is aggressively lobbying for the Davis fight, with his father and trainer, Floyd Schofield Sr., making bold claims about “Tank’s” current condition.
Senior alleges that Davis has ballooned to near 175 lbs during his hiatus and insists the fight must happen strictly at the 135-lb limit. While rumors point towards a rematch between Davis and Isaac Cruz, Schofield’s latest social media activity suggests those negotiations may have stalled, potentially opening the door for a summer showdown.
The Approach

Davis is a slow starter, as he uses the early rounds to download data, often giving away rounds to study an opponent’s rhythm. Following his majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr., where his low output was heavily criticized, Davis would likely double down on his high-guard pressure. He would wait for Schofield to commit to a combination—something the aggressive youngster is prone to—before slipping inside to deliver a counter-left cross.
A key tactical component for Schofield would be sustained volume. As seen in the Roach Jr. fight, Davis can be frustrated by opponents who don’t “respect” the power and instead force him to work every second of the round. Schofield would likely employ a “hit-and-move” strategy, darting in with 3-4 punch combinations and pivoting out before Davis can reset.
