Tim Bradley Gets Emotional Over Andre Ward

Tim Bradley got very emotional when addressing Andre Ward’s recent departure from ESPN.

The network decided to let the former two-division world champion go after not renewing his deal.

This was part of ESPN’s decision to reduce costs. This move was also accompanied by Max Kellerman’s departure from ESPN. While that may have been the case, Bradley was kept on.

The former lightweight world champion was kept on, having renewed his deal a year earlier.

And yet, Bradley admitted that it was hard to see a colleague, with whom he had built such a rapport with, departing the commentary team.

“I had no clue this was coming. After the show (the Jared Anderson-Charles Martin fight), we hear in our headsets, ‘Report to the green room.’ I’m looking at Dre, I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ He didn’t say anything.

“He just was like, ‘Let’s go, our boss says we gotta get in there.’ I get in the room, and I’m like, ‘Man, did we mess up tonight? Did we do something wrong?’ And he just dropped the news on us, and I broke down right there.

“I’m gonna miss him dearly. He’s exceptional out there. Every time he’s on the mike, he’s always damn near perfect on the mike,” Bradley said

Ward joined the network following his retirement in 2017 when he beat Sergey Kovalev for the second time to remain undefeated with a record of 32-0.

Thereafter, he became a fan favorite with Bradley, as ‘S.O.G. ‘s no-nonsense approach towards favoring the fighter went down well with the fan base.

Although there is a chance that Ward could return at some point, the latter already has his eyes on the future.

“It’s been a great ride and I’m going to miss the whole ESPN crew that I’ve worked with for the last six years. I’m excited about my future and the chance to work on new projects and endeavors. Great things are ahead,” Ward

Ward has left his mark both inside the ring and outside. And that is the most important thing to remember moving forward.
