Thurman Confirms Comeback Against Jarvis – Can He Still ‘Fight’?

Keith Thurman has confirmed his comeback against Brock Jarvis, but will he make it to the fight as fans are left wondering what he has he got left?
The bout will take place on March 12 from Sydney, Australia. It is Thurman’s first fight at 154 pounds. He is a former unified welterweight champion, having reached the elite level of the sport. However, he is no longer the same fighter. Thurman has only boxed twice since 2019. He lost to a 40-year-old Manny Pacquiao in his first career defeat. He returned to face the current WBC Welterweight Champion Mario Barrios in 2022. While he won a unanimous decision, Barrios was not a champion then. Barrios was also coming off his first loss to Gervonta Davis, meaning his confidence was not high.
Thurman has been out since that fight due to injuries and inactivity. He was meant to face Tim Tszyu last March. The fight would have given him the chance to win Tsyzu’s WBO Junior Middleweight Title. A victory would have taken him in elite company, becoming a two-weight world champion. But he withdrew after suffering from a torn bicep.
This is, by far, Jarvis’ biggest test. He is a power puncher with a 22-1-0 record. 20 of those wins are from knockouts. He defeated Adrian Rodriguez via a stoppage in his last fight. He will be fighting Thurman in front of his home fans in Sydney, Australia, giving him an extra incentive to win. His only defeat was against his fellow Australian Liam Paro, the former IBF Junior Welterweight Champion. Thurman and Jarvis had plenty to say to each other as things got intense. However, fans were not convinced that Thurman could deliver based on his activity.
Thurman Vs. Jarvis
“You got to understand, he has not been world champion. Keith Thurman has not only been champion, I’ve beaten champions. I schooled the last champion, Mario Barrios. So it’s hard to impress me. But what I saw was a lively fighter. A guy who is gonna fight…Don’t miss your plane flight, der, der, der. I’m gonna be there boy. Don’t worry about it. We’ll have fun,” Thurman
“Make sure you get there Keith. Make sure you show up. I don’t want to hear about any old man injuries. He’s stated that he’s a power puncher. But he hasn’t knocked anyone out in 10 years. Hasn’t fought in three years. That’s a long time at his age. He also had a scheduled fight last year (against Tszyu), but pulled out with an ‘old man’ injury. “ torn bicep…The show is over. The show is over Keith. Over. “It’s finished,” Jarvis
But Thurman could line up the Tszyu fight with a win. Dan Rafael has said a fight is possible for the summer. It would be a non-PPV event. The two fighters have plenty to prove, with question marks over their careers. Tszyu has lost his last two fights, while Thurman’s brand has suffered with inactivity.
