Mayweather exhibition faces injunction ruling Thursday
Floyd Mayweather's scheduled exhibition against Mike Zambidis this weekend could be blocked by a federal judge who plans to issue a ruling Thursday on a potential injunction, according to ESPN.
The six-round showcase is set for Saturday, but legal proceedings remained unresolved as of Wednesday. The judge indicated optimism about reaching a decision before fight night.
What the injunction means for Mayweather's exhibition schedule
Mayweather has staged a series of lucrative exhibitions since retiring from professional boxing in 2017, cashing big checks for low-risk bouts outside the traditional title picture. Saturday's proposed matchup with Zambidis would mark another entry in that run.
The nature of the injunction request was not detailed in the ESPN report. Mayweather, 50-0 as a professional, last fought in an official bout in August 2017 when he stopped Conor McGregor in ten rounds.
A hearing on the matter is expected to conclude before Saturday's event window closes.
