Poirier Praises Pimblett’s Rise – ‘He’s Talking The Talk, Walking The Walk’
Dustin Poirier praised Paddy Pimblett following his performance at UFC 304.
Pimblett faced arguably his toughest test when he faced Bobby Green. Pimblett secured a victory with a first-round triangular choke. The win took his undefeated record to 6-0. The win also secured him a position in the lightweight rankings. There are many big names in the lightweight division, including Poirier himself. The other big names are Charles Oliveira and Arman Tsarukyan.
The current champion is Islam Makhachev, who is regarded as one of the best P4P fighters in the world. Pimblett has a massive fanbase with close to three million Instagram followers. The victory was the perfect response to his last two performances. His victory against Jared Gordon at UFC 282 last year was highly controversial.
Poirier Reacts
Despite a unanimous decision win, many felt Pimblett had come up short. Pimblett’s win over Tony Ferguson in his last fight at UFC 296 was nothing to write home about since Ferguson had lost his last six fights. If he can continue winning, Poirier can see him doing big things in the future.
“He’s another one of those guys whose trajectory is like, if he keeps doing what he’s doing, he’s going to be – not that he’s not massive, but he’s on the right track. When you talk like that and people like your personality, and you go out there and finish guys, you know, vets and legends like Bobby. Of course, going into the fight, I knew he could win, but to finish Bobby Green that way, I was very surprised. He’s talking the talk, walking the walk, man,” Poirier said
Before the Green fight, Pimblett had suggested that this could be his last UFC fight. This was provided he secured a massive crossover boxing fight. The main name mentioned was Jake Paul. The Problem Child has fought several MMA fighters.
Pimblett Vs. Paul
He has faced Nate Diaz, Tyron Woodley, Ben Askren, Anderson Silva and Mike Perry. He stopped Mike Perry in his last fight after dropping him three times. Paul remains undefeated against MMA fighters, as Pimblett was open to the fight. While he backtracked on those comments, as the aim is to secure a title shot in the future, a fight could happen later.
“If Jake Paul sends a contract over for a couple of million dollars, lad, and wants to fight me, let’s do it… We’re prize fighters at the end of the day. That’s what people forget. We’re prize fighters, we do this to get paid. It’s all about money.
“Give Jake Paul his dues for that one. I didn’t think he’d fight someone like Mike Perry. He’s fought a load of…clowns. He fought Anderson Silva and Tyron Woodley when they were both over 40, and Anderson’s a Thai boxer and Woodley’s a wrestler. But, Mike Perry is a boxer, he’s a striker, he’s got hands. So I’ll be honest, Jake Paul has gained a little bit of respect from me for that,” Pimblett said
