Zahabi Maintains GSP's Post-Fight Film Study Ritual

Aiemann Zahabi is keeping alive a post-fight tradition that Georges St. Pierre practiced throughout his championship run.

The bantamweight, who trains with his brother Firas Zahabi at Tristar Gym in Montreal, told fans on social media that he still heads backstage after every bout to review his performance on video — win or lose. The practice mirrors what St. Pierre did during his welterweight title reign, when he would immediately analyze his fights with Firas before even leaving the arena. A clip that resurfaced this week showed St. Pierre doing exactly that after he defended his belt against Josh Koscheck in 2010.

Film Study Tradition Lives On With Zahabi Brothers

"Firas and I have kept this alive, we go over my mistakes after each fight whether I won or lost!" Zahabi wrote in response to the video, per Sherdog. The routine has continued even after tough losses — Zahabi is coming off a knockout defeat to Sean O'Malley at UFC Freedom 250 that ended a seven-fight winning streak.

St. Pierre, who retired with a 26-2 record, defended the welterweight title nine times before stepping away in 2013. He returned four years later to capture the middleweight belt from Michael Bisping before retiring for good. Firas coached St. Pierre throughout the bulk of that run and is widely credited with shaping the Hall of Famer's meticulous approach to the sport.

Zahabi, now 14-3 as a pro, will look to bounce back from the O'Malley setback when he next enters the octagon.
