Prates On UFC Future And Retirement Timeline
The 33-year-old said he might not complete all eight fights on the contract. Prates told the outlet his career timeline depends on his competitive drive and that he'll retire when he no longer feels capable of being champion. He said he's addicted to winning and training hard, but if he can't compete at the top level anymore, continuing doesn't make sense.
Prates hoped to challenge Islam Makhachev for the welterweight title in January 2027, but the champion is now targeting a return after Ramadan next year. The Brazilian is scheduled to fight Michael Morales for the interim title at UFC 336 on Jan. 30 in Toronto.
