Zabit Magomedsharipov books grappling match with Raul Rosas Jr.

Retired UFC featherweight Zabit Magomedsharipov will compete for the first time since 2019 when he faces Raul Rosas Jr. in a 155-pound no-gi grappling match on July 5.

The bout headlines an ACBJJ event in Moscow, Russia, MMA Fighting reports. Rosas, ranked No. 13 in the UFC bantamweight division, replaces Dan Hooker, who was originally rumored as the opponent. UFC welterweight Rinat Fakhretdinov takes on Armen Petrosyan in the co-main event.

Why Magomedsharipov left the UFC in 2020

Magomedsharipov stepped away from MMA in 2020 after a planned fight with Yair Rodriguez fell through, closing his octagon run at 6-0 with wins over Jeremy Stephens and Calvin Kattar. The Russian, now 35, later said he walked away because of repeated bout cancellations and a sense that the UFC "didn't want to make me a champion," according to the report.

Rosas has won five straight inside the UFC, most recently taking a decision over Rob Font in March to push his promotional record to 6-1. The 21-year-old previously competed in a grappling match against Deiveson Figueiredo in Brazil that ended in a draw when neither fighter secured a submission.

The ACBJJ card runs July 5 in Moscow with the main event contested at 155 pounds under no-gi rules.
