Wilder Open To Chisora Rematch
Deontay Wilder has verbally agreed to a rematch with Derek Chisora, with the former WBC heavyweight champion expressing his interest directly.
The confirmation comes with the standard caveat that a verbal agreement and a signed contract are different things — but the intent from both sides appears genuine.
"Hell yeah. We're gonna make it happen," Wilder said
Chisora added that he intends to speak with Eddie Hearn about the fight, suggesting he is operating as a promotional free agent and is looking to Matchroom Boxing as the vehicle for the rematch. The April fight between the two was a largely scrappy twelve-round affair that Wilder edged on a split decision, scoring two knockdowns in a performance that did little to silence those who believe the 40-year-old should be considering retirement.
Chisora's situation carries its own irony. He had declared the April fight — his 50th professional contest — would be his farewell, framing it as an appropriate note on which to close a long and entertaining career. The way it ended has changed his thinking. He wants another go, and Wilder has given him the green light.
Whether Hearn facilitates the deal and whether Wilder ultimately commits to paper remains to be seen. The 40-year-old's willingness to keep fighting has outlasted most predictions, and a rematch with Chisora — however far it sits from the top of the heavyweight division — keeps him active while other options develop.
