What's Next For Wilder?

Deontay Wilder defeated Tyrell Herndon, raising question marks over his next steps.

Wilder took his record to 44-4-1, which ended his two-fight losing streak. The win was also significant as it was the first time he had been without Malik Scott. The pair had only secured one win in four bouts, which was against Robert Helenius.

Wilder has been vocal about his desire to face Anthony Joshua. The pair were on course to fight each other for the Undisputed Heavyweight Championship. However, the talks failed as both boxers went their separate ways. Wilder lost his WBC Heavyweight Belt to Tyson Fury, while Joshua would lose his belts against Oleksandr Usyk. Wilder and Joshua then signed a deal to fight provided they won their respective fights. Joshua stopped Otto Wallin, but Wilder lost to Joseph Parker, which ended hopes of the fight. But with Wilder and Joshua at the latter end of their career, now may be the time to make that fight.

Alternatively, Wilder may take on Dave Allen. Eddie Hearn has backed that fight after Allen’s win over Fisher. The Fisher win took the rivalry to 1-1. While there has been a talk of a trilogy, there is no guarantee it will take place. Wilder has said he wants to fight multiple times a year, some of which include tune-up fights. While Allen may not view himself as that fighter, Wilder would be a heavy favorite.

Mindset

"I want to make sure everything is good with me. We’re our biggest critics, and there is nothing like losing your confidence within yourself. "We have a few fights lined up for this year, and it’s going to be some warm-ups. We’ll call it warm-ups, and that’s no disrespect to any opponent who steps in the ring with me. We’re tuning things up. I want to make sure everything is back and functioning back to how I used to be, and even better," Wilder stated

There is also the outside chance of a fight with Jarrell Miller. The duo have a history of bad blood after Miller had publicly criticized Wilder’s skills. Wilder allegedly took that personally when they had a sparring session, with reports Wilder had hospitalized Miller with a concussion. Miller also drew Wilder’s scorn after his failed test, with the Bronze Bomber saying Miller had let his family down. Either way, Wilder wants the biggest bouts.

"I’m disappointed because he let his family down, he let his kids down. He let a life changing opportunity slip through his hands and that’s what I’m mostly disappointed in, because of the family. He talked about how he came up and living with roaches and having to add water to milk, just like a lot of our culture who have to go through the same thing. But when you get this opportunity, you hold this opportunity dear. The things that you know are going to get you in trouble, you don’t do it," Wilder said
