Usman Nurmagomedov entered free agency after stopping Archie Colgan in the first round at PFL New York on Friday. The undefeated Russian lightweight champion finished the final fight on his PFL deal and told reporters he is weighing his options.

"After Islam, Usman is going to become champion. This is legacy. This is Father's Plan," he told the media. But he also made clear that legacy alone will not determine his choice. "Legacy doesn't pay check," he said. "I have a family."

PFL, which announced a merger with MVP MMA this week, needs Nurmagomedov far more than UFC does. The promotion will reportedly make a strong financial push to retain him. UFC CEO Dana White confirmed the promotion's interest when asked, responding with a simple "sure" and a smile, according to the report.

Nurmagomedov is 28 years old and holds leverage in negotiations. He could take a lucrative PFL deal and move to UFC around age 30, the same age Makhachev was when he won the lightweight title, or he could jump now while undefeated and chase the third chapter of his family's plan. His team meeting will determine which path he takes.
