Two Charged With Perjury Over McGregor Appeal

Two people are facing perjury charges after allegedly lying to authorities during Conor McGregor's appeal in his civil sexual assault case, according to MMA Fighting.

Samantha O'Reilly and Steven Cummins appeared in a Dublin court Tuesday and were charged with giving false statements during the trial that they knew to be false, per the report. The charges stem from McGregor's unsuccessful appeal of a jury verdict that found him liable for sexually assaulting Nikita Hand in a Dublin hotel in 2018.

What the Alleged Perjury Involved

McGregor's appeal included an affidavit from O'Reilly, a former neighbor of Hand, who claimed she witnessed a physical altercation between Hand and her ex-boyfriend around the time of the alleged assault. Hand denied those allegations, and the evidence was later withdrawn from the appeal, MMA Fighting reports.

The jury ordered McGregor to pay Hand £206,000 plus legal fees after finding him liable. Despite multiple court rulings against him, McGregor continues to maintain his innocence. "I am an innocent man," he said in July before his scheduled UFC return against Max Holloway. "I'll stand for my innocence until the day I go out. I know the truth."

O'Reilly and Cummins have been under investigation since McGregor's appeal was rejected. No hearing date for the perjury charges has been announced.
