Till Reveals Browne Bar Brawl Was Staged
Darren Till says his recent Liverpool pub scrap with Lee Browne was fake.
The former UFC welterweight told Full Mount MMA that he and Browne staged the altercation to build hype for a potential boxing match under Till's Gorilla Promotions banner. Video of the pair clashing outside a Liverpool pub circulated widely this month, but Till now admits the confrontation was planned from the start. "I said, 'Look, come to Gorilla. We'll cause a little bit of a fuss and stuff like that,'" Till said, per MMA Mania. "So he caused a little bit of fuss inside. I said, 'Look, we'll have a little bit of back and forth inside and outside. We'll get it fired, and we'll build a name off that.' And he was all for it."
Till's Plan For Browne Fight At Gorilla Promotions
Till described the choreography in detail. Browne threw a water bottle inside the venue that grazed him. Outside, Till delivered what he called "a little slap or two." The goal was to manufacture buzz for a Browne fight down the line. "I think we've done our job, you know?" Till said. "We're going to be putting him on Gorilla. We're going to be getting him two good fights on there. And if he comes through unscathed, mate, that's a showdown."
The tactic mirrors recent promotional stunts in MMA, though Till pulled the curtain back unusually early. Sean Strickland and Khamzat Chimaev waited until after their staged confrontation to confirm it was theatre. Till disclosed the plan roughly a year before Browne could realistically fight him.
Till faces Yoel Romero at BKFC 94 in Manchester on September 26. Both he and Browne need wins before the Gorilla Promotions showdown can happen.
