Tarin Reveals Divine Sign Before UFC Debut

Regina Tarin credits divine intervention for steering her toward mixed martial arts over professional wrestling.

The undefeated flyweight told Full Send MMA that she sought spiritual clarity after WWE invited her to tryouts in January. She had nearly committed to a wrestling career when the UFC offered her a debut on three days' notice. "I had a conversation with God and asked if I chose the right sport," she said, per Sherdog. "UFC then called me on three days' notice."

From Canceled Contender Series To Short-Notice Debut

Tarin was originally scheduled to compete on Dana White's Contender Series last year before that bout fell through. The WWE call came soon after. She attended their January tryouts but wrestled with the decision between combat sports and sports entertainment. The UFC's short-notice offer in February resolved the dilemma. Tarin beat Ernesta Kareckaite by unanimous decision in her Octagon debut.

The 21-year-old Mexican carries an 8-0 record into her second UFC appearance, with six finishes across those wins. She faces J.J. Aldrich at Noche UFC 4 on Sept. 12 at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona. Aldrich enters on a two-fight winning streak and holds a 15-7 pro record. Oddsmakers list Tarin as a -250 favorite.

Tarin also competed in professional boxing before settling on MMA. The flyweight opens as one of the younger fighters on the roster at 21 years old.
