Tank Davis' Team Reaches Out To Haney
Devin Haney, the WBO welterweight champion revealed that Gervonta Davis' team has made contact about a potential fight.
"His team reached out! We might just end up fighting," Haney
Haney unified the lightweight division in 2022 before eventually vacating, with Davis claiming the WBA belt in the space Haney left behind. The paths that kept them apart at 135 have since diverged further — Haney is now welterweight champion, Davis has not fought since his controversial draw with Lamont Roach Jr. in March 2025, and the weight gap between them has widened considerably.
Davis has never fought above 140 pounds. A welterweight fight is not realistic at his size. A catchweight somewhere between 140 and 147 would require Haney to come down and Davis to come up, and given the WBO's recent pressure on Haney to fulfil his mandatory obligation against Keyshawn Davis, the timing for a complex catchweight negotiation is far from ideal.
The queue in front of it is already substantial. The WBO has been explicit that Keyshawn Davis must be next or Haney vacates the belt. Talks with Shakur Stevenson over a 144-pound catchweight generated public momentum before stalling. Ryan Garcia has called Haney out for a rematch.
Whether the weight and the WBO mandatory can both be navigated is a question the contact between their teams has not yet answered.
