Poirier Arrested For Public Drunkenness

Dustin Poirier has been arrested for public drunkenness.

Poirier addressed it on social media, acknowledging the arrest and telling his followers he has some work to do. The brevity and directness of that response is consistent with how he has spoken about the difficulties of life after fighting over the past year.

The arrest arrives against a backdrop Poirier himself has been candid about. Since retiring following a unanimous decision loss to Max Holloway in 2025 — his 31st and final UFC fight — the 37-year-old has spoken openly about the disorientation that followed the end of a career built entirely around routine, purpose, and competition.

"Retirement is scary, man. Days are long," Poirier said earlier this year. "I wouldn't say depressed, but I kind of got into like a funk. Like what the hell am I going to do with my life?,” Poirier

In separate comments he went further: "Some days I wake up wishing I had a fight to look forward to. Every day I'm battling — battling myself — about wanting to fight. Just trying to figure out what fills that void, man."

Poirier built one of the most respected careers in UFC lightweight history — three fights with Conor McGregor, two with Justin Gaethje, battles with Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira, and a community foundation that has raised millions for his hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana. The man behind that career has been honest about how difficult the ending has been. His acknowledgment that he has work to do suggests he knows it.
