Social Media Reacts To Conor McGregor's Response To The Mayweather-Gotti Fallout
Fans have not reacted well to Conor McGregor’s response to the Floyd Mayweather Jr. and John Gotti III exhibition fight.
On June 11th, 2023, the duo squared off in a bout that resulted in a ring brawl after referee Kenny Bayless stopped the fight in the sixth round due to their verbal exchanges.
While that may have been the case, Gotti started to swing wildly at Mayweather, who covered himself up on the ropes as he returned fire.

But in the process of doing so, the fighters’ respective camps jumped into the ring as the chaos ensued. In the aftermath, Gotti branded Mayweather an ‘enemy for life,’ as he tagged McGregor for ‘backup.’
"Punk b****, Floyd Mayweather, you my enemy for life. Bum never put me down or stopped me. It was a DQ for no reason. @thenotoriousmma we need backup," Gotti
McGregor does have a history with Mayweather, as the two fought each other in a massive crossover boxing event in 2017.
Although the Irishmen did come up short, he did last ten rounds with an all-time great. Therefore, this could be the Irishman’s way to stay relevant.
McGregor has not been the same since his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov as he has lost the last three of his four UFC fights.
But by McGregor having his say in the Mayweather-Gotti event, he may push himself towards the rematch that he desired with Mayweather.
After all, the first bout earned him a reported $100 million.
With that being said, this is what McGregor had to say.
"I back the Gotti’s. The war is on," McGregor
It is worth bearing in mind that McGregor has since then deleted the tweet, which should not come as a surprise.
The ‘Notorious’ has things much closer to home to worry about amid speculation that he will return to the Octagon later this year to fight Michael Chandler.
And given that he has been absent from the Octagon since 2021, following his injury and defeat to Dustin Poirier, McGregor’s primary focus should be to make a statement on his return to the UFC.
Another defeat for McGregor will increase the calls for him to walk away from the sport, given that he does not have a lot to prove having become a two-division champion.
And this was the sentiment being expressed on social media, as the majority of the MMA fans questioned McGregor’s hunger for the fight game.
This is since he was recently pictured punching a mascot at a sports event, showing that the Irishman’s focus had been distracted.

Whatever McGregor does moving forward, he will have to put on a performance as the doubts about his form continue to increase. Time will tell how it all plays out.
