Eddie Hearn: Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury contract needs rework if fight leaves UK

Promoter Eddie Hearn says the existing contract for Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury will need to be renegotiated if the fight is staged outside the United Kingdom.

Per a Bad Left Hook story, Hearn told reporters that the current terms require the heavyweight clash to happen on British soil. "Under our contract the fight has to take place in the UK," he said. "When we negotiated that contract it was our absolute intention to give the British fight fans the biggest fight ever in British boxing."

What happens if Turki Alalshikh wants a US venue

The Matchroom boss acknowledged that advisor Turki Alalshikh has not settled on a location despite public speculation. Hearn reportedly said it would disappoint British fans if the bout moved stateside but added that Matchroom wants the fight to happen regardless. "The contract will have to be renegotiated," he said, according to the report. "We signed with the understanding and the terms of that contract that the fight will be taking place in the UK."

Hearn stressed that Matchroom will not obstruct the process if venue talks shift but made clear the existing deal assumed a UK setting. He said negotiations can be revisited if needed.

No date or final site has been confirmed for Joshua vs Fury. Hearn's comments suggest the contract includes other provisions tied to the UK staging beyond just the location clause.
