Shogun Stops Teixeira In Boxing Debut At Spaten Fight Night 3
Former UFC heavyweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">light heavyweight champions Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Glover Teixeira traded punches in a boxing ring Saturday night at Spaten Fight Night 3 in Sao Paulo.
Both fighters walked away from mixed martial arts at UFC 283 in January 2023. Rua retired with a 27-14-1 record after two decades in the sport. Teixeira, who now coaches former UFC champion Alex Pereira, closed his MMA run at 33-9, per MMA Fighting.
Shogun And Teixeira's Boxing Crossover
The bout marked the main event at Estádio do Pacaembu, with Luan Medeiros and Juan Cruz meeting in the co-main event boxing match. Olympic gold medalist Bia Souza competed in a judo contest against Raz Hershko, falling by golden score.
Rafaela Silva beat Prisca Awiti on points in judo action, while Felipe Preguiça took a unanimous decision over Nicholas Meregali in jiu-jitsu by identical 29-28 scorecards.
The card continues Spaten's push into combat sports crossover events in Brazil, pairing former UFC stars with traditional martial arts disciplines on the same bill.
