Schofield Faces Bahdi For Vacant WBA Lightweight Title

Floyd Schofield and Lucas Bahdi will compete for the vacant WBA lightweight title on October 10 at Chicago's Wintrust Arena, Bad Left Hook reports, with unified flyweight champion Ricardo Sandoval defending against Oscar Collazo on the Golden Boy doubleheader card streaming live on DAZN.

The lightweight vacancy stems from Gervonta Davis being moved to "champion in recess" status by the WBA in January after the Baltimore star went inactive following his March 2025 draw with Lamont Roach Jr. Davis has not fought since, his planned rematch never materializing and a novelty bout against Jake Paul scrapped after another arrest. Schofield, 24, last stepped through the ropes in June 2025 when he stopped Tevin Farmer in 78 seconds. The unbeaten Californian was scheduled to face JoJo Diaz last November before pulling out with a reported injury.

Bahdi's Path From Sylve Upset To Title Shot

Bahdi earned his opportunity by knocking out then-MVP prospect Ashton Sylve in the sixth round of their July 2024 clash, despite trailing on all cards at the time of the stoppage. The 32-year-old Canadian parlayed that upset into a deal with Jake Paul's Most Valuable Promotions and has since posted decisions over Armando Casamonica, Ryan James Racaza, and Roger Gutierrez. Bad Left Hook notes that Bahdi entered the Sylve fight as a hired B-side but flipped the script and has been handled more like a prospect himself since, though his power has not produced another knockout in three outings.

Collazo brings a 15-0 record and WBA and WBO minimumweight titles into his flyweight debut against Sandoval, who captured the WBC and WBA 112-pound straps by outpointing Kenshiro Teraji in Japan last July. The 27-year-old Puerto Rican has been inactive since, a planned UK defense this year falling apart when Galal Yafai withdrew injured. Golden Boy lists Collazo as the challenger but appears to view the 5-foot-2 titlist as the bigger internal draw, per the report. Collazo stopped short-notice replacement Neider Valdez in two rounds at flyweight in June after his original minimumweight defense collapsed.

The Chicago card marks a rare championship-level event for the Windy City. Sandoval holds a three-inch height advantage and six-inch reach edge over Collazo, who has historically strong minimumweights have struggled when jumping to 112 pounds. The October 10 show airs exclusively on DAZN.
